  2. NETWARE 4.0 ENDORSED BY OVER 450 THIRD-PARTY DEVELOPERS

  4. Over 600 Products to Run with Novell's Global Enterprise Solution

  6.      Washington, DC -- March 10, 1993 -- Over 450 companies representing more 
  7. than 600 products have endorsed NetWare 4.0, Novell Inc.'s next generation 
  8. operating system for global enterprise networking.  NetWare 4.0 provides an 
  9. integration platform that lets customers connect their diverse computing 
  10. environments into a cohesive network computing system, making the network 
  11. easier to use, manage and administrate.

  13.      "Our customers are the beneficiaries of the strong endorsement 
  14. we are receiving from the developer community regarding the NetWare 4.0 
  15. platform," said Willie Tejada, director of Novell's Developer Relations. 
  16. "Customers wishing to upgrade can be assured that many of their favorite 
  17. products and applications are compatible with and will be enhanced by 
  18. the new services provided in the NetWare 4.0 operating system."  NetWare 
  19. Directory Services, enhanced security, imaging, routing and wide area network
  20. (WAN) improvements, and multiple language support are just some of the new 
  21. services and capabilities provided by the NetWare 4.0 platform. Tejada 
  22. commented, "NetWare 4.0 offers a robust set of network services that developers
  23. can use to build the next generation of products for our customers' enterprise
  24. computing needs."

  26.      To assist customers in determining which products will be available 
  27. for the NetWare 4.0 platform, Novell has compiled the NetWare 4.0 
  28. Resource Guide. This document provides product descriptions, lists the NetWare
  29. services the developer plans to support in upcoming product releases, and 
  30. offers product and press contact information. The guide was distributed at 
  31. today's announcement of the NetWare 4.0 environment and will be available at 
  32. the Novell booth at InterOp Spring.

  34.      Novell also gave customers the opportunity to get a first hand look at 
  35. products integrated with the NetWare 4.0 platform during the announcement 
  36. activities. Over twenty key developers were showcased at personalized 
  37. demonstration stations.

  39. These developers include:  Beyond, Incorporated, Borland International, 
  40. Cheyenne Software, Inc., Compaq Computer Corp., DaVinci Systems Corp., 
  41. Fluent,Inc., Gupta Corp., Hewlett-Packard, IBM Corp., Imagery Software, Inc., 
  42. Intel Corp., Legato Systems, Inc., Lotus Development Corp., Microsoft Corp.,
  43. NetFRAME Systems, Oracle Corp., Powersoft Corp.,  Reach Software Corp., 
  44. Sybase,Inc., Symantec Corp., Wellfleet Communications, Inc., and 
  45. WordPerfect Corp.

  47.      Additionally, Novell showcased development partners at numerous other 
  48. InterOp announcement-related activities including a Yes, It  Runs with NetWare
  49. reception for resellers, key accounts and OEMs. This event featured the 
  50. products of 90 of Novell's development partners.

  52. Developers' Programs and Services
  53.  
  54.      The availability of two Software Developer's Kits (SDKs) for the 
  55. NetWare 4.0 platform three months prior to today's launch has aided the 
  56. NetWare 4.0 development effort.  The NetWare Client SDK provides developers 
  57. with a single interface for writing DOS, Windows and OS/2 applications in the 
  58. NetWare 2.x, 3.x and 4.0 environments.  The NLM SDK for NetWare 4.0 provides 
  59. developers with a toolkit for writing server-based applications known as NetWare
  60. Loadable Modules (NLMs) which can directly access the new and enhanced services
  61. of the NetWare 4.0 operating system.

  63.      Novell has also been working to simplify and enhance the 
  64. application development process by increasing the number and variety 
  65. of NetWare-enabled third-party development tools. Since the beginning 
  66. of 1993, seven new offerings, including C++ and FORTRAN compilers for 
  67. NLM development, and object oriented tools, have been announced.

  69.      These activities show Novell's commitment to the developer 
  70. community and to facilitating the creation of products customers 
  71. need to successfully expand their networks. Development-related 
  72. activities are managed by the Novell Professional Developers' Program, 
  73. which offers streamlined access to NetWare products and Novell 
  74. development tools, as well as a wide variety of developer-oriented 
  75. support services.  The Yes, It  Runs with NetWare  Program is 
  76. another important service for developers giving them an easy way to 
  77. let customers know their products are compatible with NetWare. Call
